Note: This is a comment I left over at Expat Chronicle’s post Classism: The Spanish Legacy in Latin America, where Collin states that the Classism so ingrained in latin american society comes from the spanish legacy during the conquest and the colonialism periods and how this affects colombians aswel as expats today.
Wow what a coincidence, back at my blog I just posted «La Mentalidad Colonial de Hoy» (Today’s colonial mentality), in that post, citing mainly Enrique Dussel and Walter Mignolo, I state that from the colonial times, in latin america we absorbed symbolical ways to shape our identities and that these colonial ways trascend today, for example in the globalisation, in the distinction between first world and third world countries and why we buy luxuries.
